This young children’s book is considerably older than most of the others, but it’s a nostalgic favorite for me.

As a child, I would read to my brother before bed, and this was his absolute favorite. Grover talks to the reader, his dismay increasing as we get closer and closer to the end of the book. His attempts to prevent that from happening become increasingly funny as they grow in desperation. Kids delight in thwarting him, with an unexpected twist at the end.
